Occupational Safety and Health

MCIL promotes and educate employers and employees on standards and requirement of safety and health legislations in their place of work. The OSH team undertake regular inspections to ensure compliance. We advise employers of their obligations, workers on their duties of care, the whole of government on preventative measures to reduce and minimize the potential of workplace accidents and illnesses, and are responsible for recommendation and assessment of DCAs received from MWTI-PUMA on OSH related concerns in any development in the country.

The ministry through OSH Unit undertake investigation mandates on Accidents reported by employer, employee and referral cases from ACC, SFESA and other stakeholders. These investigation processes target the employers of workplaces (place of accident) to get full details of accidents with assistance of victims and witness statements on the accident or incident causing injury to an employee or worker

Advise

We give relevant advisory roles on preventative measures, safety & health guidelines as mandated under OSH Act 2002, OSH Regulations 2017, by initiating and facilitating Awareness Program for employers Upolu and Savaii.  The ministry also Chairs the National OSH Taskforce meeting, giving an opportunity to representatives from employer and employees organizations to discuss and reflect on OSH related concerns from the public and private sector.
