On 19th January 2026, the Honourable Minister of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Labour (MCIL) met with Managing Director and team of the StarKist Samoa to discuss key labour and workforce matters, with a particular focus on the Guest Worker Program.
The meeting highlighted the importance of the program in supporting operational stability, addressing labour shortages, and ensuring compliance with immigration, employment, housing, health, and safety standards. StarKist Samoa shared updates on its workforce, noting that guest workers remain a vital part of sustaining production, food security, and economic activity within the Territory.

Discussions also emphasized worker welfare, lawful employment, training, housing compliance, and long-term workforce sustainability, reinforcing a shared commitment to responsible labour management and the protection of workers’ rights.
The Minister acknowledges StarKist Samoa’s ongoing cooperation and looks forward to continued collaboration to ensure fair, safe, and compliant employment practices that support both workers and national economic development.
